Advice From Kid Me:

I was so stressed the other day that the world seemed to be looking at me with their pointy eye brows and twitchy faces.  Am I not supposed to have a bad day just because I’m a bubbly happy person?  Well, I started thinking about advice I was given and it would suffice, but the true advice that I thought I really needed was from within.

So, in reality, people wish they could go back and warn their younger self about what they were heading into.  Life is hard.  Love is harder.  Being the best person you can be is hardest.  The days get shorter, but somehow the hours still stretch.  The next thing you know, you’re old.  You deal with stress and worry and the stress and worry of others.  Grownups are rough on each other sometimes.  And in the grownup world, the most depressing thing is: There Is No Recess.

Screw that!  I’d rather take advice from my younger self.  I’d be all like, “Self, you’re getting wrinkles!  Stop worrying and go play!”

I think the kid in me would tell me to take a breath, step back, and sit Indian-style on the rug.  Think about all the little things that make me happy.  Think of all the people who make my day.  Play once in a while, but not too hard or I’ll hurt myself.  Let the worry and the stress of the day leave me.  Take risks, take adventures, open my heart more without the guard.  Be nice to others.  Share (and by share, I do not mean boyfriends).  Find humility.  Get outside!  Laugh, giggle, appreciate someone who can make me belly laugh and keep that person in my life forever.  Run.  Eat candy (small doses or I’ll get sick).  Skip.  Tell the people I love that I love them without hesitation.  I love you.  I love me too.  Hug everyone (even though I’ve always done that already).  Jump up and down when I’m happy because it makes me even happier.  And be silly.  Goof off.

So stop listening to your grownup self all the time.  There’s no need to worry when there isn’t too much to worry about.  Things are going to happen no matter how you choose to react to them.  So go outside and play!
